Peter Bensinger

Mr. Peter B. Bensinger is a nationally recognized expert on drugs and alcohol in the workplace. He is currently Senior Consultant at BDA | Morneau Shepell, a provider of employee assistance programs, problem gambling services, and drug testing management. Mr. Bensinger served as Administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration from 1976 to 1981. During his tenure, heroin overdose deaths decreased by over 50% and there was a significant decrease in the number of Americans using illegal drugs. Prior to his appointment in Washington, he served as Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections with direct responsibility for all penitentiaries, reformatories, training schools, and parole supervision.

Mr. Bensinger was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the National Governors Association for outstanding service to State Government and the first Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Former Federal Narcotic Agents and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Educational Foundation. In recognition of his leadership efforts to combat drug abuse, the Mayor and City Council of Chicago declared August 10, 2006 "Peter Bensinger Day in Chicago."

Mr. Bensinger has appeared as a guest on Face the Nation, Meet the Press, Good Morning America, Oprah, The O'Reilly Factor, and Nightline. He is a graduate of Yale University.
