Joseph Colaneri

Conductor of opera, oratorio and symphonic works, educator and lecturer, Maestro Colaneri concurrently serves as Artistic Director of the Opera Program at Mannes College of Music in New York City and conductor at the Metropolitan Opera.

Joseph Colaneri made his conducting debut at the Met with a performance of La Bohème in fall 2000. He returned to conduct Luisa Miller the following year and conducted all of the popular "Met in the Parks" performances of Turandot in the 2002-2003 season. In 2005-2006 Joseph Colaneri conducted Falstaff at the Metropolitan Opera leading a cast that included Bryn Terfel in the title role. Continuing with the Italian repertoire, he conducted Il trittico the next year and, in the 2007-2008 Metropolitan Opera season, Mr. Colaneri led two of Donizetti’s masterpieces: La Fille du Régiment with a cast that included Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Flórez, as well as Mary Zimmerman’s new production of Lucia di Lammermoor with Miss Dessay.

He has become a favorite speaker at SILL’s Music Mondays, earning standing ovations after each of his engagements.
