Steven Banks and Xak Bjerken

Recognized for his "glowing mahogany tone" (Seen and Heard International) and "breathtaking" (Classical Voice of NC) performances, American classical saxophonist Steven Banks "is at the forefront of musicians of his generation." (Taimur Sullivan, Professor of Saxophone, Northwestern University)

Mr. Banks has an ongoing relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra. This season he is particularly excited to travel to Abu Dhabi with the orchestra to perform a production of Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet with the American Ballet Theatre.

Mr. Banks is the baritone saxophonist of the award-winning Kenari Quartet. As a jazz saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed alongside members and former members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Buddy Rich Big Band, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

Mr. Banks also serves proudly as Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Ithaca College. He has a Master of Music degree from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music and a B.A. in Saxophone Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Xak Bjerken is an accomplished pianist who has performed worldwide. He is Professor of Music at Cornell University where he co-directs Mayfest, an international chamber music festival with his wife, pianist Miri Yampolsky. He studied with Aube Tzerko at UCLA and received his master's and doctoral degrees from the Peabody Conservatory as a student of and teaching assistant to Leon Fleisher.
