Lisa Chavez

Lisa Chavez has thrilled audiences at the Sarasota Opera for the past three seasons, especially her portrayal of Bizet's Carmen, and Rosina in The Barber of Seville. She has also sung regularly for the New York City Opera, where she earlier had a great success as Carmen, and appeared last June with great success in Stonewall.

Her work with the San Jose Opera, Da Capo Opera, and numerous symphony and recital appearances have all resulted in responsive audiences and excellent reviews. Chavez is a native of the San Francisco Bay area and attended Cal State Hayward before receiving her Master's Degree at the Manhattan School of Music. She has won numerous vocal competitions and awards, including several foundation grants. She returns this season to the Sarasota Opera, performing in Gounod's Romeo and Juliet, and the seldom heard La Wally, by Catalani.
