Cann Duo, Pianists
Sisters Michelle and Kimberly Cann have been making music together since they were in elementary school. Both grew up playing multiple instruments — steel drums, bassoon, violin, trombone, and tuba, to name a few — but the piano was their first love. The Cann Sisters are appearing in association with the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota and the Curtis Institute of Music.

Cann DuoPianistsSisters Michelle and Kimberly Cann have been making music together since they were in elementary school. Both grew up playing multiple instruments, but the piano was their first love.
Michelle Cann has been lauded as “exquisite” by The Philadelphia Inquirer and “a pianist of sterling artistry” by Gramophone. Recognized as a leading interpreter of the piano music of Florence Price, Michelle performed the New York City premiere of Price’s Piano Concerto in One Movement in 2016. She won two Grammy Awards, one, in 2023, for her recording of the concerto with the New York Youth Symphony, and one, in 2025, for Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price, recorded with soprano Karen Slack.
Kimberly Cann made her solo début at age 12 and her orchestral debut (with Beethoven´s “Emperor” Concerto) at age 13. In 2006, she accepted the positions of Visiting Professor of Music and Artist-in-Residence at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica. Kimberly is the Founding Director of Piano Lab Studio, which is committed to providing a unique, well-rounded music education for students of all ages.
Kimberly has functioned as a board member of the Asheville Symphony, Asheville Piano Forum, and other organizations. She maintains a thriving teaching studio in Asheville, North Carolina, and performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician.
