Virginia Mims is an American lyric coloratura soprano recognized for her expressive stage presence, vocal agility, and interpretive depth. She is currently pursuing a career in classical performance, with a repertoire spanning opera, art song, oratorio, and musical theatre. In the 2025-2026 season, Virginia will appear as Musetta in Aspen Music Festival's La Bohème under the baton of Enrique Mazzola with acclaimed tenor Matthew Polenzani, and return to Sarasota Opera for Così fan tutte and La Bohème both under the baton of Victor DeRenzi. Recent performance highlights include Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Musetta in La Bohème, and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with appearances at the Sarasota Opera and Aspen Music Festival. She has portrayed Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro (Sarasota Opera, Brevard Music Center), Cleopatra in Händel's Giulio Cesare, and Mary Bailey in Jake Heggie's It's a Wonderful Life with Indiana University Opera Theater. Other role credits include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and a Flower Maiden soloist in Wagner's Parsifal, presented during IU's Bicentennial Celebration in 2019. Believing in the importance of being a well-rounded artist, Virginia has extensive background in ballet, piano, and languages. She trained in ballet for seven years, studied piano for a decade, and has experience in Italian, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Polish. She brings this depth to her artistry both on and off the stage. Virginia holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Vocal Performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where she also served as an Associate Instructor, teaching private voice lessons and masterclasses.
