traba_fernando.jpg Fernando Traba has served as Principal Bassoon of the Sarasota Orchestra since 1992. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Mr. Traba began music studies with his father, Timoteo Traba, Principal Bassoon of the National Opera Orchestra in Mexico City. Fernando went on to earn his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of George Goslee, Principal Bassoon of the Cleveland Orchestra, and an Advanced Certificate from the Juilliard School where he studied with Judith LeClaire (New York Philharmonic) and Stephen Maxim (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). Professionally, Mr. Traba began his career at the age of 16 with the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM and went on to serve as Principal Bassoon with all five major orchestras in Mexico City, as well as the Orquesta do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal and the Orquesta del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain before winning his current position in Sarasota. He has performed many of the major bassoon concertos with orchestras in Mexico, Europe and the United States. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Traba has been a member of the Sarasota Wind Quintet since 1992. He has also performed with The Festival de Musica Instrumenta in Puebla, Mexico, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival and ChamberFest Cleveland.
