A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Bobby Nunes began his oboe studies with Martin Schuring and served as Principal Oboe of the Phoenix Youth Symphony for three years. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from The Juilliard School, winning the Juilliard Oboe Concerto Competition, and completed his professional studies certificate at The Colburn School in Los Angeles. Bobby was a member of the New York String Orchestra Seminar in Carnegie Hall and was awarded fellowships for study at the Tanglewood Music Center, Music Academy of the West, and Aspen Music Festival. Bobby has served as the Principal Oboe of the Sarasota Orchestra since 2023 and was recently named Principal Oboe of the Des Moines Metro Opera. Prior to joining the Sarasota Orchestra, he spent one season as Acting Principal Oboe of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Bobby has performed with many orchestras across the United States, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the Carnegie Hall National Youth Orchestra (NYO-USA) for two consecutive years, touring China in 2015 under the baton of Charles Dutoit, and Europe in 2016 under Christoph Eschenbach and Valery Gergiev.
Fernando Traba has served as Principal Bassoon of the Sarasota Orchestra since 1992. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Mr. Traba began music studies with his father, Timoteo Traba, Principal Bassoon of the National Opera Orchestra in Mexico City. Fernando went on to earn his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of George Goslee, Principal Bassoon of the Cleveland Orchestra, and an Advanced Certificate from the Juilliard School where he studied with Judith LeClaire (New York Philharmonic) and Stephen Maxim (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra). Professionally, Mr. Traba began his career at the age of 16 with the Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM and went on to serve as Principal Bassoon with all five major orchestras in Mexico City, as well as the Orquesta do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal and the Orquesta del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain before winning his current position in Sarasota. He has performed many of the major bassoon concertos with orchestras in Mexico, Europe and the United States. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Traba has been a member of the Sarasota Wind Quintet since 1992. He has also performed with The Festival de Musica Instrumenta in Puebla, Mexico, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival and ChamberFest Cleveland.
