Dr. Ari Green serves as Chief of the Division of Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology in the Department of Neurology at UCSF. His team is comprised of more than 20 teams and 200 people investigating Multiple Sclerosis and conditions where brain inflammation drives pathology. Under his leadership, the group has made major breakthroughs in the field while also training a generation of leaders and caring for thousands of patients at an internationally recognized program. Dr. Green’s laboratory is dedicated to the biological validation of potential biomarkers intended to measure progression and repair in MS to help rapidly accelerate the development of new treatments. His major scientific contributions include directing the first successful phase II clinical trial of a repair agent for MS and recent breakthroughs in using the proteome to understand the sequence of events leading to disease. His lab continues to work on developing and validating biomarkers for neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Green received a B.A. and B.S. from Miami University, an MD at Duke University before completing an MCR at UCSF. He completed residency in Neurology followed by Fellowships in Neuroimmunology and Neuro-ophthalmology at UCSF. He has been the Debbie and Andy Rachleff Distinguished Professor since 2009. |
