Brooke McSwain is the Senior National Policy Research Analyst for AI, Digital Health, Public Health Infrastructure, and Stroke/Hypertension at the American Heart Association. She also serves as the policy advisor to the Association’s Federal Government Relations department, Center for Telehealth, the Center for Health Technology and Innovation, and is a member of the Association’s AI Task Force, leading their national collaborative efforts to develop, deploy, and educate the healthcare workforce on applying ethics frameworks to AI applications. She is a critical care respiratory therapist and exercise physiologist, who worked in Cardiothoracic ICUs and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation facilities, specializing in heart and lung transplant and LVAD patients. In 2014 she left bedside care to direct inpatient and emergency telehealth efforts at MUSC, and in 2018 transitioned to public policy – specializing in healthcare technology. She was a HIMSS Health Policy Fellow, the Vice Chair of the HIMSS Public Policy Committee, and is currently the Chair of the HIMSS Connected Care Committee. She earned her B.Sc. from the University of South Carolina in Exercise Science and Biomechanics, an M.Sc. from Northeastern University in Clinical Respiratory Therapy and Organizational Communications, and an M.A. from The Johns Hopkins University in Government and Political Communications. |
